ASPPA Updates Membership Directory

The ASPPA Membership Directory will be expanded to once again include member email addresses, effective May 1.

As a member benefit, ASPPA provides an online ASPPA Membership Directory that allows members to connect with each other. That directory had included member email addresses until last fall when, following numerous member complaints about the excessive amount of unsolicited and unwanted emails they received, the ASPPA Board of Directors asked that email addresses be removed from the directory until a satisfactory solution could be implemented.

After a careful evaluation of the alternatives, we are ready to incorporate a solution — one that will allow members to access individual member emails, but only one at a time. Once the solution is implemented, member emails would be included on the member contact information pop-up page.

  1. ASPPA Members are reminded that this information is not provided to facilitate commercial transactions outside of ASPPA.

    Opting Out

While we believe this solution will greatly reduce the likelihood of this information being misused, in this era of heightened privacy concerns, ASPPA feels strongly that you should decide if your information is available via the ASPPA Membership Directory. If you prefer that your email (or contact information) not be included in the directory, you have several ways to opt out:

    1. To remove your email only from the Member Directory: Log in via the Account page on ASPPA Net. Once you have logged in, click “Contact Information” on the left-side menu, select “edit for email address,” and remove the check mark beside “Include in Web/Mobile Directory” and click “Save.”

    2. To remove your entire record from the Member Directory: Log in via the Account page on ASPPA Net. Once you have logged in, click on “Communication Preferences” on the left-side menu, select “edit” in the upper right of screen, remove the check mark beside “Include Profile in Web/Mobile Directory” and select “Save” at bottom of the screen.

    3. Alternatively, you can email [email protected] with the subject line: “Exclude my email in the Web/ Mobile Directory” or “Exclude my Profile in the Web/ Mobile Directory” (depending on whether you want to exclude just your email or your entire listing) along with your name, company name, city and state in the body of the email.

All of these options are available now.

ASPPA’s leadership hopes that this new approach will satisfy those members who want their email available to other members, while making it more difficult for this information to be misused. We plan to have this new capability in place by May 1 and, as always, please contact [email protected] if you have any questions.

Thank you again for your membership in, and support of, ASPPA.
