The IRS website has a wealth of resources for retirement plan professionals. Nonetheless, it can be difficult to find the information one needs. But there are ways to find what one needs, notes an article that appeared in Plan Consultant.
The IRS homepage may not provide much that is of interest to retirement professionals, the article says, but the retirement plans landing page does; a helpful shortcut would be to bookmark http://www.irs.gov/Retirement-Plans. Visitors to the IRS homepage can find a link to this page by hovering over the “Information For…” tab at the top far right corner of each page — but, as the article notes, this is not particularly intuitive. That retirement plans page provides access to:
- published guidance;
- interest rate and actuarial tables;
- required forms;
- guidance on basic reporting and disclosure rules; and
- guidance on how to report retirement plan transactions.
The Forms and Publications home page features the most popular IRS documents for individuals and businesses, as well as access to a complete list of IRS publications.
ASPPA members will also find the “Help & Resources” tab to be very useful, the article says; the information it makes available includes:
- a search function for the full Internal Revenue Code
- Log in to post comments
