Retirement Policy Initiatives in the States

States across the nation are enacting laws that aim to increase saving for retirement in the private workforce. Overall, over 30 states are considering this issue and eight states to date have passed laws of various types addressing this issue.

In “Retirement Policy Initiatives in the States: How You Might Be Impacted,” a webcast that will be held from 2:00-3:40 p.m. on Aug. 23, Andrew J. Remo, Director of Legislative Affairs, American Retirement Association, will describe the types of laws being considered and the details of the state retirement programs, and give an implementation status update regarding states where these laws already exist. The webcast will have a particular focus on the states whose laws require businesses over a certain size to offer a retirement program of some type for their employees, since those laws will have the biggest marketplace impact on retirement plan providers.

Attendees will:

  • gain an understanding that retirement is the new health care;

  • be better prepared to answer questions from clients about these programs; and

  • better grasp how state laws with a coverage requirement could provide new business opportunities for practitioners.
