PBGC Names New Chief of Negotiations and Restructuring

The Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) announced on Nov. 15 that it has appointed a new Chief of Negotiations and Restructuring, a post that plays a key role in the agency’s efforts to preserve traditional pension plans. It has named former Deputy Chief Counsel Karen Morris to that position.

The PBGC Chief of Negotiations and Restructuring directs the activities of the PBGC's Office of Negotiations and Restructuring and oversees its actuarial, corporate engagement, financial analysis, multiemployer and standard termination functions. PBGC Director Tom Reeder in a press release said that in her new capacity, Morris “will lead PBGC's work of preserving workers’ pensions and protecting premium payers from unnecessary insurance program losses.”

Reeder hailed Morris as “a leader among her peers and possesses an ideal combination of talent and energy.” For her part, Morris said that she welcomes the opportunity, and noted that, “We have an important and challenging mission of protecting participants’ benefits and working with employers to preserve the retirement security their pension plans provide.”
