What a year this has been. As 2016 recedes in the rear view mirror, let’s take a quick look back at what turned out to be a remarkable year for the world, the nation and ASPPA.
In the world of sports, for starters, the Chicago Cubs — the Chicago Cubs — won the World Series. In the realm of politics, the dust had barely settled in the wake of the Brexit vote when one of the most remarkable presidential campaigns in U.S. history culminated in one of the most astounding outcomes ever.
And in ASPPA Nation, the Society’s year-long celebration of its 50th anniversary culminated with — what else? — a blowout party for 1,000 BFFs at the ASPPA Annual Conference in October. The anniversary gala also featured a mini-reunion of 30 ASPPA (and ASPA) Past Presidents.
Good news: We’ve just added photo galleries on the gala celebration and the Past Presidents’ gathering to the ASPPA history website, at http://asppa50.org, in the “Celebration” pull-down menu item at the top of the home page.

A big part of ASPPA’s 50th anniversary celebration was the publication of Leading the Evolution: ASPPA’s 50 Years at the Forefront of the Retirement Industry in October. Complimentary copies of the book were provided to ASPPA members attending the Annual Conference and shipped to all other active members in November. As with all mailings that large, it’s inevitable that some ASPPA members did not receive their copies.
