Two more House members, one from each major party, on Jan. 30 joined 132 of their peers as cosponsors of the Rehabilitation for Multiemployer Pensions Act.
Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) and Dina Titus (D-NV) signed on as cosponsors of H.R. 4444, a bill that calls for the creation of a Pension Rehabilitation Trust Fund and the establishment of a Pension Rehabilitation Administration within the Treasury Department to make loans to multiemployer defined benefit plans. Rep. Richard Neal (D-MA) introduced the bill on Nov. 16, 2017; it is now before three House committees: Education and the Workforce, Ways and Means, and Appropriations.
Fitzpatrick is the third Republican House member to become a cosponsor of the bill. The first was Rep. Peter King (R-NY) on Jan. 2.
A related Senate version, S. 2147 or the Butch Lewis Act of 2017, was introduced by Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) on the same day that H.R. 4444 was introduced in the House. S. 2147 was referred to two Senate committees: Finance, and Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs. The latter held a hearing on the bill on Jan. 30.
