The first 403(b) restatement period for pre-approved plans has officially begun. The IRS acknowledged that restating 403(b) plans will be more difficult than restating qualified plans, and therefore, provided a longer deadline. The webcast begins with a high-level overview of the substantive differences between 401(k) and 403(b) plans, to assist in understanding the unique issues that may arise when restating 403(b) plans. Explore specific issues that practitioners encounter as they prepare for the restatements.
1. Explain to your clients the significance of the remedial amendment period and why their plans need to be restated
2. Begin preparing a process for obtaining the information needed to complete the restatement
3. Inform clients about operational changes that will result from the plan restatements

About the Speaker
Robert Richter is a vice president with FIS Relius. He manages the consulting department and is instrumental in authoring and supporting the FIS retirement plan documents. Robert is a frequent lecturer and author on matters involving qualified retirement plans and cafeteria plans. He served as President of the American Retirement Association in 2017 and 2012, when it was the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries. Robert is a member of numerous other organizations, including the Florida Bar and the American College of Employee Benefits Council.
