The 2019 ACOPA Actuarial Symposium is Right Around the Corner

ASEA Monthly

It’s not too late. Not too late for what, you ask? Not too late to sign up for the 2019 ACOPA Symposium. This year’s symposium will be held on Aug. 9-10 at the Doubletree by Hilton in Chicago. Regular registration ends Aug. 2, so time is running out fast.

As in the past, this year’s symposium will feature presentations from some of the best and most innovative minds in the small plan industry. From uncommon (and potentially dangerous) plan designs (there is a session on floor offset arrangements and variable annuity plans) to plan terminations and everything in between (sessions on 404, 415, 430 and 436 are also on the agenda), the symposium has you covered for providing insight on topics that may be new to you or as a refresher on topics that you may not often see in your practice.

There are sessions designed to keep you updated with the current happenings on Capitol Hill as well as with the IRS and the PBGC. Representatives from both of these agencies are scheduled to appear to review any new regulations or guidance that has recently been published and to answer questions.

The symposium will close with the popular Ask the Experts session where a panel of pension experts will field questions from the attendees. These questions can be on topics that were presented earlier in Symposium or on something that was not covered.

Since this is the final year of the JBEA continuing education cycle, the symposium is a great place to get those last minute credits. Of the 16 hours of CE credit that can be earned (in addition to JBEA, ASPPA and ERPA credit will also be granted), this year’s symposium will provide two ethics credits. But rather than sitting through one long ethics session, this will be broken down into two smaller sessions with one being held during lunch on Saturday by keynote speaker Lauren Bloom.

So sign up now before it’s too late. Then gather your questions and come to Chicago for a nice long weekend. See you there!
