Earn ethics and professionalism credits while considering the issues that actuaries may face when providing services through an independent TPA firm instead of directly to the plan sponsor. These types of arrangements present special ethical issues, including communication issues, resolution of data issues, scope of engagement and identification of the principal. With an emphasis on case studies, the session will review ERISA, JBEA and Code of Conduct/ASAOP requirements. While the webcast will primarily deal with these issues from the actuary's point of view, this webcast may also be of interest to TPAs who work without actuaries.

Learning Objectives:

    • Increase your awareness of ethical issues in outside actuary arrangements.
    • Define the scope of the engagement and identify the principal when dealing with independent TPA firms.
    • Establish how to properly handle communication issues that actuaries may face when providing services through independent TPA firms.
