Qualified Plan Terminations and Partial Plan Terminations

In this webcast, John Griffin, J.D., LL.M. discusses the recently-issued IRS resource material related to qualified plan terminations and partial plan terminations. Among the topics Mr. Griffin will discuss are: when must or may a plan sponsor terminate its qualified plan; the steps necessary to complete a plan termination; participants' rights upon plan termination; and other special plan termination issues.  In addition, Mr. Griffin will explain the IRS' position on the finding of a partial plan termination, including its controversial interpretation of the rules on participant vesting. (Please note that this webcast is not intended to be a comprehensive explanation of the specifics of defined benefit plan terminations. Mr. Griffin will discuss defined benefit plan terminations in a general manner.)

      ABOUT THE SPEAKER

      John P. Griffin, J.D., LL.M.

      John P. Griffin, J.D. and LL.M. (Taxation) has over 30 years of experience in the employee benefits field. Currently, John is a Principal with the ASC Institute (ASCi). Prior to joining ASCi, John was a Principal with the pension consulting firm Global Benefit Advisors, LLC (GBA), a Vice President with Pension Publications of Denver, Inc. (PPD) and a Senior Consultant with the benefit consulting practice of Coopers & Lybrand. Before entering private consulting, John worked in the Employee Plans Division in the National Office of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as a Tax Law Specialist. John also has seven years of experience with the U.S. Department of Labor.  John is a frequent lecturer and trainer in the employee benefits field.  He is an active member of the Colorado Bar.
